Alexander J. Lewis aka LX is an American Indian artist born to the majestic sacred Black Hills of the Lakota Sioux Nation in South Dakota. He is an enrolled tribal citizen with the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe (CRST) on his mother’s side of the family and Diné on his father’s. As a young toddler LX loved to draw and create art, and at the time he was doing what other kiddos do, getting messy with paint and mud. He played around with that form of learning, which helped to express himself in such a way that gave him much needed comfort. It was an escape-goat in rough times. Living with five brothers in a single mother home and not having much of anything including a two-parent family, he would put himself into worlds he created as a child. He was able to learn how to praise himself on different art that he created as a young artist. It made LX feel worthy and wanted. Around third grade he started selling his drawings for currency called library-bucks and traded for food etc. He was somewhat amused that so many kids wanted him to draw cartoons characters or monster trucks for them. He states that most children get that type of attention or loving from parents/family. For the love of creating artwork always brings a bright light into his life and now it guides his spirit to the heart of his ancestors. He is an artist that echoes the people that came before him through each creation that comes to life in his mind. LX is passionate about the arts and has worked within different mediums throughout his art career.
